Saber

Format:

  • Duration: 9 sessions

  • Length: 2 hours per session

  • Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

  • Weapon: Classic (non-electric) saber

  • Participants: Mixed ages & experience levels

STANDARD SESSION STRUCTURE (ALL CLASSES)

  • 6:30 – 7:00 PM | Warm-Up & Free Fencing (30 min)
    Dynamic warm-up followed by light free fencing to prepare the body, sharpen timing, and build confidence.

  • 7:00 – 8:00 PM | Instruction & Structured Drills (60 min)
    Technique, tactics, and conceptual learning tailored to the session theme.

  • 8:00 – 8:30 PM | Controlled Bouting (30 min)
    Scenario-based fencing is designed to reinforce the lesson of the day.

9-SESSION COURSE OUTLINE

Session 1 — Foundations & Safety
Stance, grip, footwork fundamentals, basic cuts, and distance awareness.

Session 2 — History & Evolution of Saber
The transition from cavalry and classical saber to modern sport fencing, including how rule changes shaped technique, posture, speed, and priority.

Session 3 — Parries, Ripostes & Distance Control
Defensive actions, clean ripostes, and choosing the correct response based on distance.

Session 4 — Tempo, Timing & Stop-Cuts
Broken rhythm, explosive actions, and attacking into preparation.

Session 5 — Feints, Disengages & Compound Attacks
Drawing reactions and building multi-action attacks.

Session 6 — Priority Control & Phrase Building
Establishing initiative, chaining actions, and understanding right-of-way.

Session 7 — Tactical Styles & Adaptation
Developing individual fencing styles and learning to adapt to different opponents.

Session 8 — Competition Preparation & Refereeing
Clean, judgeable actions, referee calls, and pressure-management strategies.

Session 9 — Mini Tournament & Evaluation
Structured bouts, performance feedback, and course wrap-up.
